Live music focus of new government research

The effect of the new Licensing Act on live music in pubs and small venues is to be the focus of new research by the government.

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has employed market research company MORI to analyse the effects of the new regime on 2,000 licensed venues with a capacity of less than 500.

It wants to know how licensees found the new system of applications, whether they had objections to their licence and how live music in pubs is faring.

The research will start this week and continue throughout August and September with a full report expected around November.
