DRINK DRIVING FIGURES DROP

The "don't drink and drive" message seems to be getting through, according to the latest statistics.

The Association of Chief Police Officers and the Department of Transport have revealed that there was a drop in the number of people caught drinking and driving over the recent Christmas period.

The Christmas campaign, which ran across England and Wales throughout December 2006, saw 145,867 drivers breath tested, a 10 per cent increase on last year. Of these 9,658 tested positive - 6.6 per cent - down from 6.9 per cent last year.
