Tenants deserve justice and protection from pubcos

....according to Tory MP Sir Nicholas Winterton.

The staunch pub supporter welcomed the news of a fresh pubco inquiry.

Winterton wrote to Business and Enterprise Committee chairman Peter Luff asking for action against the pubcos.

"Pubcos should not exploit their position of strength and should ensure tenants are treated fairly.

"Rents should be reasonable and sustainable and the terms for purchasing beer should also be reasonable.

"At the moment, I do not think they are."

Winterton believes that the failure of pubcos to be transparent in rent calculations has allowed them to exploit tenants.

"The tied tenant should be no worse off than the free of tie tenant and yet they are," he said.

"I want justice for all those tenants who work extremely long hours in a competitive market and are poorly treated."
