Norwich pub put on market after being empty for three years

A derelict Norwich pub that has been left boarded up and empty for over three years has been placed on the market by owners, Greene King.

The Ferry Boat, in King Street is being offered for sale after a decision not to press ahead with redevelopment plans. In early 2008 Greene King announced it was to spend £1m repairing the Grade II listed pub.

Planning permission and listed building consent to add a single storey side extension, a two storey rear extension, conversion and extension of outbuildings, and 4,500 sq ft of extensions and alterations for a new restaurant area, lounge bar and kitchen was granted in March 2008.

However the plans have now been abandoned.

The pub is on the market with Savills with potential buyers asked to submit sealed bids by noon on September 12.

The property agent has said that the given the geographical location of the pub, any new owners could do well converting it into a top-end riverside dining pub. In previous years the Ferry Boat had been a favourite with Norwich City FC fans before and after home matches, as a result of the outlets proximity to the football club.

Elaine Beckett PR manager for Greene King Pub Partners issued this official statement concerning the move: Greene King can confirm that the Ferryboat pub in Norwich is on the market. For an independent investor the sale would provide a unique business opportunity.
