PROUD OF YOUR STAFF? THEN TELL US!

Licensee Karen Collins wants to celebrate her first anniversary in charge of the White Horse in Oakington, Cambridgeshire, by telling her staff how proud of them she is.

She credits them with helping her turn around the fortunes of the pub - changing it from a dining-based establishment to a community pub.

"I have around 16 staff and they've given me so much support in making these changes," she says. "They've helped create a real community feel for the place and they're genuinely nice people too."

Tragic circumstances recently brought the kind nature of the team to the fore. One of the pub's regular male customers passed away at the age of 42. As a response, the local community chipped in to donate prizes for an auction to help put together a trust fund for his two children.

Karen says: "That's just one example of what good-hearted people the staff are. They're always keen to do their best and help out where they can.

"In fact as I speak the chef is finishing up his shift and going out to mow the lawn in the beer garden for me!"
